ict and computer equipment disposal service
ICTiSS will gladly arrange to pick up redundant computer equipment from businesses large and small. We offer a wide range of services including wiping all data from the computers hard drive. This is extremely important to satisfy the regulations of the data protection act and is always included whichever service you chose from us. Our usual service consists of coming to your offices, collecting the equipment from you and transporting it back to our depot. Equipment is then sorted, inventoried and any hard disk drives are wiped to department of defence standard or destroyed. We charge by the Kg for equipment collected, but unlike others we will give credit weight for any equipment that is in very good condition and that can be re-used easily, this can also include unused toner and ink cartridges for all those printers you no longer have.
We ensure that all equipment collected is reused, either in the schools that we offer ICT support to or through various charities which provide computers for reuse in education, health and not-for-profit organisations in developing countries. We also donate some equipment to an orphanage in Russia . Any remaining equipment that can not be reused is 100% re-cycled, none of the equipment is ever land filled.
We have become aware of other companies claiming to supply developing countries with computers, this however does not always mean that your old computer will be sent in a responsible way. It is very common that containers of equipment sent to developing courtiers are actually sold on markets in these countries. The containers that are sent over are usually only filled with about 30% of useful equipment; the rest is simply redundant computer equipment that is used as ‘packing'. When the container arrives, the useful equipment is taken, sold at the markets and the ‘Packing' is simply dumped in the nearest ditch or local landfill to pollute the local water tables. Please use ICTiSS as your preferred redundant electrical equipment collector to stop this from happening.
We will provide the relevant type of certification to prove that you have disposed of your waste appropriately, whether it be a Waste Transfer Note, Certificate of Destruction or Certificate of Secure Disposal.
Questions people have asked:
Q. Why do we do this?
A . We are passionate about not letting things go to waste. This philosophy means that we are more geared up than most to support and repair some of the older computers that are often written off by other support companies by using the parts salvaged from our collected equipment. ICTiSS believe that it is important to protect the environment for us and our descendants.
Q. Why should I use ICTiSS to dispose of our equipment?
A. We can help you meet your environmental & legislative responsibilities including the WEEE Directive, Data Protection Act and your 'Duty of Care' You will be safe in the knowledge that all equipment will be used to help someone else instead of being used as land fill and damaging our fragile environment.
Q. What do we do with the collected equipment?
A. All equipment is wiped of all information and then thoroughly tested and catalogued. We endeavour to re-use nearly all the old computer equipment we collect, whether it be broken down into spare parts, reconditioned and re-deployed to another school or given to charities. We will do our up most to make sure that the computer gets re-used in one way or another. Any equipment that is not suitable for refurbishment, spares is re-cycled complying with all known current environmental regulations
Q. Why do I have to make sure that any old computer is cleansed of all information?
A . It is a legal obligation under the data protection act, that any old computer equipment that you dispose of must not contain any information relating to staff, parents or pupils still on it. You may think that once the information has been deleted and emptied from the recycle bin or the hard disk is formatted that all information has gone, but this is certainly not the case. In most cases the information can be simply and quickly retrieved. We will ensure that all computers collected from you will be completely wiped of any information to department of defence standard. We then supply you with written confirmation that this has been done, signed by the engineer that performed the work to cover your legal requirement.
Q. What liability do I have after the equipment has been collected?
A. We take full ownership of the equipment absolving the disposer of any responsibility for its future use. We remove all company marks and inventory numbers that can identify your company. You are given documented proof that we have taken on all responsibility of the collected equipment.
